Yearly physical or yearly waste of time ?
One of the traditions of medicine is the yearly physical. But it may not be that useful. I like doing one or two, especially on people over the age of 50, but after that I don't think they are that effective a way of spending medical money. And there are experts who agree with me. See what the experts say .... |
Of course, it is good to keep in touch with patients on a regular basis, update their health status and behaviours ( my personal delight is scaring the daylights out of people by calculating for them their risks of dying in the next few years ) , do a little heath promotion, establish rapprot etc....
So for every expert opinion there is an equal and opposite opinion....
In favor of the "yearly periodic health examination" is...
And another reason is for a "cognitive check"....to make sure your brain is stil perating oke

So do you need a yearly physical ?
Here is a video which is a good summary of the issue.
I agree with most of what he said.
I do call patients in for a complete physical quite regularly though.
But because they have all sorts of health problems.
I agree that if you are a young healthy normal adult they are a waste of time.
