The three traditional options for prostate cancer are :
1) "Watchful waiting"
- doing nothing - which is actually a good choice for many people !
2) Radiation.
The is often done with radioactive implants inserted into the prostate, which is called "brachytherapy"
3) Surgery
- taking the prostate out. Depending on the type and location of the cancer, this can ( sometimes ) be done with by robots and laser beams without nerve damage or significant complications
There is now a newer choice - photodynamic therapy. This means filling the prostate up with chemicals taht make it sensitive to light, and then shining a bright light of the correct frequency onto the prostate.
