Eulogy for Flat Ass
He was simultaneously one of the skinniest and nicest men I have ever met. And had been married longer than should be humanly possible. He inspired me to be a better person.
His real name was somewhat unusual, so most people called him "Buff" , after Buffalo Bill, for reasons he explained to me once, but have since faded in memory.
Flat ass is what we called him around the office. We stole it off his loving wife of 75 years. She called him that , and we figured if it was good enough for her .....

They met when he was a paratrooper in WWII. He, saw her walking down the sidewalk one day, and ran over and proposed marriage to her on the spot. She accepted !
Dad would not agree to the marriage, because his daughter was only 17. But a few months later, after she had turned 18, they got married with dads blessing, and lived happily ever after.

Flat Ass was a para-trooper, who jumped out of planes with a parachute strapped to his back, and 40 pounds of TNT strapped to his right ankle by a thirty foot rope.
When the War was over he emigrated to Canada, went back to school, and eventually became a university professor. And a really good one. He helped form the minds of a generation ! |

After retirement he decided, - as a hobby project - to go and help underprivileged children in northern BC. Which he did until he was in his mid nineties !
Most of all, he was always cheerful and kind and upbeat. Doctors office are not always happy places, especially when you are way past your "best before" date. But he always remained up beat and cheerful.
Gonna miss you, Flat Ass. I always hoped we would go riding together one day !
