The short answer is "as low as possible" .
The ideal blood pressure to have is the lowest one that allows you to stand up without fainting. Any more pressure than that is just excessive.
All you really need is enough blood pressure to push the blood from your heart up to your head. But we have figures that tell what numbers to aim for, although they should be used as rough guidelines rather than as gospel.
The usual b.p. targets are :
Systolic Diastolic
( the top one ) ( the bottom one )
- Official normal less than 140 less than 90
- Goal for diabetics and those
with heart disesase less than 130 less than 85
- Most typical bp 120 80
- best bp to have reeelly low reeelly low

This graph shows LDL or "bad" cholesterol compared to Coronary Heart Disease events. (Heart attacks ). The lower your LDL, even if you cheat by using drugs, and even if there is nothing wrong with your heart, the less you seem to die !
(The 2,3,4,5 are Canadian LDL measurement units. )
