Arthroscopic Knee Surgery - not useful ! Not Good ! Fake Surgery !
Arthroscopic cartilage repair is not better than fake surgery
Yeah yeah, I know.....
You a geriatric ex - jock and your knees hurt. And you figure you deserve a scope !
Take some anti - inflammatories and call me in the morning.
And lose weight ! Yeah, I 'm talking to you .....
But don't bug me to send you to get your knee "scoped" and "vacuumed out" , or get your cartilage fixed, or see an orthopod.
It is a total waste of time.
How do I know ? We did an experiment.
It is an experiment that has been done lots of times in medicine, and we still keep doing them. Because we still keep getting surprised
Just thinking that a treatment is working is a start, but you don't really know until you have proved it with an experiment. ( This is where the alternative health crowd misses the boat - they just aren't into proof as much as real scientists.)
To really really prove that a treatment works we have to compare it to a fake treatment (usually called the control group). In all treatments, even the fake ones, people get better, just because of the power of suggestion. To prove a treatment is better than placebo it can't just make people better, it has to make more people better than the fake treatment group. )
Which sometimes means we give people fake drugs and sugar pills. And sometimes we even give them fake operations.
As in below.
A group of people with genuinely achey knees had their knees scoped. Half the group had a scope and surgery. The other have the scope was stuck in, they had a look around, and didn't do a damn thing.
The result at six months - both the real surgery and the "fake surgery" had exactly the same results. Experts couldn't tell them apart. Which means the real surgery was no better than a fake one. So why even bother with the real surgery ?
So, that is why I am not going to send you to an orthopedic surgeon to get your "knee scoped". It is a total was of everyone's time.
